Can Black People Do Laser Hair Removal

Many people ask Does Laser Hair Removal Work on Black People? The answer we will review here is concerning laser hair removal efficiency on black skin and laser hair removal on dark skin in general. Millions of African Americans who want to do home hair removal have been reading for long time that laser hair removal is not safe for black skinned people.

Generally speaking this is correct, because laser hair removal is based on light energy which is turned into heat when it is projected at dark matter (skin or hair). If it is projected at the hair, the light will turn to heat and destroy the hair growth (that’s good!) but if the light is emitted at dark skin, it will also turn into heat and cause skin burns (NOT good!).

Laser Light On Dark Skinned People

The human skin tones have been divided into a simple chart, which has specific criteria. It is called the Fitzpatrick scale skin tone chart. The scale is from 1-6, when 1 is a white pale skin and 6 is totally black skin. All the figures in between cover the range of skin tone shades and how they react to sun light and sun burns.

The white pale skin, (no’ 1) can easily be burned when exposed to sunlight, it will get red quickly. The no’ 6 will never be sun burned even when exposed all day to the sun (African, Sudan black skin tones).

Most Hair Removal Devices Can Not Treat Black Skin

Most home hair removal lasers use diode lasers (810 nm wave length) which can treat a skin up to tone no’ 4, (tanned skin). The home IPL systems use 500-1200 nm). When the skin tones are brown and black, most laser hair removal systems or home IPL devices are not recommend for them.

The answer to the question Does Laser Hair Removal Work on Black People? Therefore is not a yes/no answer. It depends what you call by black skinned people. If it is totally black, then no laser hair removal for home use is safe for such treatment.

No Cheap Solution For Laser On Dark Skin

African Americans Have to Pay Beauty Salons

The only solution would be to look for hair removal beauty salons, which may be using advanced laser systems with a long wavelength light. The long wavelength light (Nd:YAG laser: 1064 nm) will penetrate deeper into the skin layers, and will not be absorbed by the melanin at the top layers.

This is a rather expensive solution because laser hair removal clinics are expensive! Each body area treated will cost hundreds of dollars, and a full body treatment will cost thousands of dollars!

Or Buy A Premium Home System

The other option for those with dark skin type 5 (not 6!) is to invest in one of the best hair removal systems available for home use. While ‘white skinned’ people do not have to get this systems and can settle for any cheap home IPL system, dark skinned people have less options available.

There is one home system for hair removal which uses the same technology of the beauty salon machines. It is called the Me-my-ELOS. The ‘Me‘ system was developed by Syneron the leading manufacturer of clinic’s and doctor offices professional systems.

The ‘Me’ is an IPL + RF system, it uses a low IPL light with an added RF (radio frequency) wave to heat the hair. Because the RF does not emit light, it dies not effect the melanin at all. So the ‘Me‘ has 9 joules per cm², which 5 of them are from the RF. That is why the ‘Me’ is safe to treat dark tanned skin (not black!).

Black Skinned People Laser Hair Removal

Does Laser Hair Removal Work on Black People? In 99% of the cases laser is not safe to be used on dark skin. IPL light energy is slightly less dangerous but is still not allowed for dark or black skin (types 5 – 6). Many African Americans have dark skin which is not black (1-5) and they can treat themselves with the ‘Me’ ELOS hair removal system.

Laser Hair Removal Guide For Dummies

Millions of people have been removing hair with laser hair removal since it was first invented. But many people are still new to this procedure because they do not understand What is Laser Hair Removal And How Does it Work. If you follow below you can read more about What is Laser Hair Removal, how is it done, what are the dangers and side effects, who are the perfect candidates and how you can do laser hair removal at home and save a LOT of money!

What is Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a aesthetic way to remove hairs for long terms of time (not permanently). With laser hair can be removed from all body areas including the facial hair.

The laser hair removal method works on a simple physics rule that dark matter absorbs more light energy than light colors. If you put for 1 hour a white box and a black box in the sun, the black box would be warmer! Laser hair removal is using this physical rule.

The laser beam is emitted at the skin and the light gets absorbed by the hairs (if they are dark!) and warms up the hair into high temperatures.

The hair growth will be disabled if the hair is connected to the hair stem cell. The heat will burn the hair all the way down and zap the hair root too.

Are You The Perfect Candidate For Laser Hair Removal

What is laser’s hair removal best candidate? The best candidates are people who have a high skin/hair contrast. Pale skin with black hairs would be perfect. But most of the people have different kinds of hair-skin combinations. Red hair, brown hairs, white hair, dark blond, light blond, light brown, dark brown or black hair.

There are 6 main skin tones from white pale skin (Scandinavian) through mixed tones skin, (Caucasian tones), to dark brown and black skin (African).

Laser hair removal will work on all hairs, except while, red and grey hairs.

And on all skin types except dark brown or black skin.

What Are Laser Hair Removal Side Effects

What are laser hair removal side effects? The side effects are caused every time the light energy is either too high or the skin tone is too dark. There are plenty of mild laser adverse effects, like a warm feeling, zapping pain, redness and laser light blisters. These will usually pass within 24-36 hours. They are caused because the light is turned into heat and heat can cause mild skin tissue burns and discomfort.

Laser hair removal should not be done in cases when the user has past skin problems/cancer, it is also wise to protect the eyes from laser hair removal eye damage by avoiding direct pulses at the eyes.

What Is Hyper-Pigmentation & Hypo Pigmentation

The laser (or IPL) light have also some long term side effects, which happen when the melanin production at the skin is damaged. In some cases the excessive light can cause a the body to react with over production of melanin. When over production of melanin happens dark skin patches can be seen over the skin. This is called Hyper-Pigmentation. Hyper-Pigmentation may be temporary side effect for a few month, then melanin production reduces back to normal.

When the laser or IPL light energy halts the melanin production no melanin will be produced by the skin cells. This is called Hypo-Pigmentation, and it is a permanent side effect.

Where To Do Laser Hair Removal

Once you understand what is laser hair removal and how does it work, you can choose whether to do it at home or pay others to do it for you.

You can do laser hair removal at any beauty salon or hair removal center, or you can do it at home. Going to a laser hair removal clinic, will cost you quite a lot of money, because you will be paying to be treated by a professional partitioner. The IPL and laser machines they use at the skin care clinics are very advanced and can deliver high results. These systems have special cooling devices to reduce the pain of laser hair removal.

Laser or IPL systems can be bought for home use too. The technology which is used is 80% similar, and you can expect very good results, if you are the right candidate. The home systems are very safe to use, and they usually have a lower energy level, so they are even less painful than the ‘large’ machines.

The main advantage of doing a home hair removal treatment, is that it is rather cheap. For $300-$500 you can buy a home hair removal laser device, and do the treatments at home at your free time.

Conclusion

This was a review on What is Laser Hair Removal And How Does it Work. We covered the laser technology and how it works, we covered the types of people who can benefit from such technology. We also covered the main side effects and the pros and cons of doing a treatment at skin clinics.

Avoid Laser Hair Removal Eye Complications

When doing laser hair removal at home, one must take some actions to avoid laser hair removal eye damage. Most laser hair removal systems and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair removal systems have built in eye protection features. In this article you can read how to avoid laser hair removal eye damage and laser blindness risks.

Eyes Damage Basic Safety Tips

Never look directly at the laser light – There is no need for complicated explanation about laser light and IPL, both are high energy light pulses, which have bright light on different spectrum levels. Just like you will never look directly at the sun, so you should avoid looking directly into the laser beam or the xenon flash. Looking directly at the laser light beam, or emitting it toward the eyes can cause severe sight damage and even blindness!

Never use a home system too close to the eyes - The user guide for each system will say it very clearly, ALL of the systems intended for personal home use are NOT allowed to be used close to the eyes! This means NO eyebrow laser hair removal at home!!

Use Laser Systems Which Have Eye Protection Features

Not all the manufacturers have invested in eye safety. But most of the systems you will find online will have some kind of protection to prevent eye damage risks. The main feature you should be looking for in an home IPL or laser system is the ‘Skin-Contact-Sensor’.

This sensor locks the laser system (or IPL) if the applicator is not firmly touching the treated skin. This prevents the system from pulsing a laser beam into the eyes or even by accident.

Here are the best selling IPL and laser systems, which have a ‘skin touch’ safety lock implemented in their systems:

The TRIA Laser

The Silk’n systems – SensEpil and the Flash & Go.

The Syneron – Me my Elos system

Remington IPL6000USA I light Pro

The Espila IPL System by BNB

and more…

The professional systems do not use the ‘Skin Contact’ sensor, because it slows down the treatment, and when used by a professional partitioner the liability is not on the manufacturer but the place which use it.

Note that the DM7000 laser hair removal is sold as a personal hair removal system, but it is intended for professional use, and does not have the skin touch sensor lock. The DM7000 laser is used 1 inch above the skin for best results!

Use Eye Damage Protection Gear

When using the IPL or laser systems the bright flash may be seen at the sides of the hand help applicator. This is not too dangerous but when doing a session with hundreds of such flashes, it can be safer to use protection dark glasses. The Espila IPL hair removal system adds a pair of eye protection glasses to each system which is shipped.

Laser light protection goggles – The only home IPL system which allows facial hair removal is the top niche Me my Elos Hair Removal. The ‘Me’ has an accessory of ‘Facial Hair Removal Kit’ that can be used to remove hair from the cheekbones down (chin, sideburns, cheeks and upper-lips). The ‘Me’ facial kit includes a dark eye-wear safety goggles to protect the sight from the facial flashes.

The ‘Me’ laser hair removal safety goggles are dark from the sides so flashes do not reach the eyes, but have a protected dark vision to the front so the treatment can be done whilst looking at a mirror.

Think of your eye safety and how to prevent permanent damage to your sight. This is important also to keep these systems away from the reach of children, as they may use improperly.

Laser/IPL Can Be Dangerous For Use

Laser and IPL hair removal are safe methods for long term hair removal. This means if the right candidate for IPL or laser hair removal uses the home device as instructed, the sessions would be safe and with very mild slide effects. The right candidate for a successful IPL or laser hair removal is a person who is healthy, with the right contrast of dark hair color and light skin tone.

There are some cases as you may see below, that the home hair removal is not safe and the user would be in some risk for mild or severe side effects.

When Not To Use Home IPL Systems

For your own safety and well being, you should NOT use the Home IPL Systems if any of the following items apply to you. There are other ways to remove hair which will be covered below, and there is no need to risk severe side effects.

If your skin type is darker than skin type 4 (see picture of skin color chart), only the ‘Me my Elos’ hair removal system is approved for treating dark medium dark skin (type 5).

If within the last three days you have had a long skin exposure to the sun, or if you have excessively tanned skin from
sun, tanning beds or tanning creams within the last two weeks, as tanning may influence the safety of the treatment.

For ‘Me my Elos’ users only: If you have a pacemaker or internal defibrillator. The IPL+RF sends radio waves to complete the hair removal process!

If you have a history of any type of cancer, or pre-malignant moles. Laser or IPL do not cause skin cancer! But when the skin has a disorder, it is better to to interfere with the intense flashes. Moles and skin tags have high melanin, so heat would be intensified there and may cause skin burns.

If you suffer from severe conditions, such as cardiac disorders. Light pulses or laser are felt like hot zaps at the skin. This can cause a non controllable cramping of the muscles, especially when done on sensitive skin.

If you have moles, large freckles, darker pigmented areas, scars or birthmarks don’t treat over them. The melanin which makes them ‘dark’ will attract more of the light energy than the melanin in the hair, and the skin surface will overheat. The best thing can be either to treat around them, or to cover them with a white pencil for laser hair removal.

If you are pregnant or nursing. There is no direct risk from the laser light or the IPL to the pregnant women. There are no medical or clinical trials which say it is not safe, but there is no research to say it is safe. The main problem is the warm zapping which can cause cramps, especially when treating the lower abdominal and upper legs.

If you have any active condition in the treatment area, such as sores, psoriasis, eczema, burns, herpes simplex, wounds or a rash. The laser or IPL flash light can cause slight skin burns, blisters, redness, which may complicate any active condition.

If you have a history of bleeding coagulopathies, or use of anticoagulants.

If you are using medications, herbs, food supplements, and vitamins known to induce photosensitivity to light exposure at the wavelength used, such as Isotretinoin (Accutane) and/or topical retinoids within the last six months, Tetracyclines, or St. John’s Wort within the last two weeks.

If you are using medications that may stimulate hair growth, such as Minoxidil.

If you have had any surgical procedure in the treatment area within the last three months or before complete healing.

If you have Epilepsy. The repetition of the light flashes can trigger unwanted effects.

The bottom line is – If your condition is not ‘healthy’ or if you are taking any medication, please consult with your doctor before using any home IPL or Laser hair removal system!

When Hair Removal Is Not Safe

Laser and IPL are the most convenient ways to remove unwanted hair for a long periods of time. After 6-8 sessions which spread over 2-3 month, most people will see a 50%-80% reduction in hair growth. Hair will grow in most cases, thiner and with light color tone. In case the hair removal cannot be treated by IPL or laser there are some alternatives which may be more suitable.

If you have any of the conditions mentioned in the list, consult your doctor before using any other method too!

Hair Removal Creams – They are smelly lotions that have cause chemical reaction, which breaks down the hair cells. After the depilatory cream is applied, the hair will drop off when rubbed with a cloth. This method is very effective, and easy to use, and the most important thing there is no ‘pain’ involved. Hair removal creams are not expensive, check this hair removal cream for men and for removal creams for women. The main con is the unpleasant odor and the fact that it is a short term solution.

Panasonic Close Curves Wet/Dry Ladies Shaver

Electric Shavers – They are also a nice easy way to remove hair. No pain involved too. The eclectic shavers today can do a very close shave! Some of them are wet/dry shavers so they can be used inside the shower for a comfortable shaving session. The main con, is that it is a short term solution too, and needs to be constantly maintained for a smooth feeling. Here is a recommended wet/dry shaver for women.

Epilator Systems – The Epilator systems do the same hair removal plucking like wax. The main difference is that waxing means a lot of hassle, wax warmer a sticky wax everywhere. And of course THE PAIN. Waxing hurts! The new epilator machines can rip the hairs from the roots nice and clean and in less discomfort. Here is the most recommended Epilator you can have.

As you see you have other options, which are safer than IPL or laser to have a smooth body.

Compare The TRIA Laser Vs. DM7000 Laser

There are currently only two systems available for home use, which customers can buy online (Amazon), the Tria Laser and the DM7000 Laser. These two are the only laser beam hair removal systems, all the rest which can be found OTC are IPL systems which use a wide spectrum light flash and not a laser beam for hair removal treatment. In this review you will read our comparison of the two systems, specs and our conclusion for the Laser Hair Removal Championships.

Laser Light Energy Capabilities

When comparing the two systems, one major difference is the amount of light energy each system is able to pulse. It can be safe to say that a higher energy transmitted at the hair, better results can be expected. The light energy is measured in joules per second per square centimeter of skin.

Tria Laser – 6–24 J/cm2

DM7000 Laser – 130 J/cm2

There is no doubt that the DM7000 has superior laser energy capabilities. It is closer to professional clinic lasers energy than to any other home use hair removal system. Higher energy means more efficient thermal elimination of hairs. Higher energy means higher temperature and risks for side effects.

TRIA Vs. DM7000 Kit Design

When buying a home laser hair removal system the design of the unit can be discarded as irrelevant. But that is not the case, when we buy a product for home use, we like it to be nice and elegant. It seems all the laser and IPL systems sold online for home use, are well designed. All except the DM7000 laser.

Tria Laser – Well designed, smooth small device, with nice curves and soft green digital indicators.

DM7000 Laser – Has a medical/professional design, a square metal box, and a few buttons at the front which look like a military radio device from Vietnam war..

TRIA Laser Vs. DM7000 Laser User Experience

When buying a home laser hair removal machine it has to be comfortable and easy to use. There is a great difference between the TRIA laser hair removal and the DM7000 Laser system in the user experience.

DM7000 Laser – Is simple and intuitive to use, very little gadgets to learn about with only a switch on-off and a 2 level intensity switch. The DM7000 has a cord attached laser pen, which is thin and very precise to use. The DM7000 laser treatment becomes awkward (and dangerous to the eyes!) when trying to treat the underarms or chest. The DM7000 has a faster laser beam repetition rate so it is possible to complete faster sessions. The DM7000 has less customer support for the non professional user. You will have a tough time to find the manufacturer website..

TRIA Laser – The Tria is an advanced device, with all the digital and green light indicators, including beeps and sounds which let the user know the machine is ready for the next pulse. The Tria has one other advantage which is a very good customer support with videos, FAQ, and all the support a non professional use may need to use the system properly.

The Tria is a cordless device, so it is very easy to use anywhere in the house and anywhere on the body. The downside of a cordless device is that it needs to be recharged frequently (every hour or so) so the session can not be non-stop.

TRIA Laser Vs. DM7000 Laser Cost

Click to Buy – TRIA Laser Hair Removal System

The Tria laser was sold online at a higher cost when it was first released, but SpectraGenics (manufacturers of Tria) have noticed that they need to adjust the price to th current market situation. They have upgraded the Tria model and have decreased the Tria price this year (2011) from $590 to $395. The DM7000 was launched at the end of 2011 and has a list price of $600 but is sold for less.

Tria Laser – $395.00

DM7000 Laser – $599.95 $433.27

Both lasers do not have any ‘hidden costs’ like the IPL lamp cartridges which run out of flashes and need to be bought for extended use of the product.

Safety Comparison Tria Vs. DM7000 Laser

The safety issue is a very important part of the decision which hair removal laser device to use at home. The most common questions are “can laser cause skin cancer” and “can laser cause permanent side effects”. Laser can be safe when used properly or by a professional person and with the right candidate for treatment (light skin tone – dark hair).

TRIA Laser – FDA approved for home use. It is actually the first ever laser to be approved by the FDA for personal use. Tria laser has some of the best safety precautions from all the laser or IPL devices. Skin touch sensor which prevents a beam to emitted unless the tip touches the skin, and skin tone sensor which checks the skin tone color to prevent a laser pulse on dark skin. On top of this Tria has 5 energy levels from 6 joules to 24 joules, so each person can use the best level for their need and pain sustainability.

DM7000 Laser – Has no FDA approval for home use, it lacks skin touch sensors, the 2mm laser pinpoint is achieved when the laser pen is 1 inch above the skin. No skin tone sensor. The DM7000 laser hair removal has 2 levels high 130 joules per second or ‘low’ 65 joules.

It might seem that the DM7000 is dangerous for home personal use, unless it is used very carefully.

TRIA Laser Vs. DM7000 Laser Conclusion

The answer to this championship would be – “it depends who you are”. For the non-professional user, with no understanding or experience in any laser treatments, we would recommend the TRIA Laser. Mainly because of the advances safety, the full customer support and guidance. With the Tria you are totally protected from mishaps. For personal use – BUY THE TRIA.

For the experienced user, or for the small home clinic business the DM7000 is a superior device, especially when using it to treat some other person. The laser energy of 130 joules, the light laser pen, and the fast repetition rate will help accomplish faster sessions, while covering larger skin areas. If you run a hair removal center business, or wish to use a professional device at home – The DM7000 laser would be your best value for money.

———————————————————-

System Review: Remington IPL6000USA I-Light Pro

It seems that the end of 2011 has brought a bloom for the IPL industry as many new IPL systems have been brought forward and are available to customers worldwide. In this review you can learn some more about the Remington IPL6000USA I-Light Pro, Professional IPL Hair Removal System.

Remington IPL6000USA I-Light Pro Description

Base Unit & IPL Hand Piece

The Remington IPL6000USA I-Light Pro is an IPL system for hair removal for home use. It is not the most expensive device you may find at Amazon in the IPL system segment, though it has the basic features to be just as good.

The Remington IPL6000USA I-Light Pro system is built from a base unit and a cord hand held IPL lamp. All the indicators and buttons are located at the base unit, and the hand device is just the IPL lamp.

Having a cord hand device has it’s advantages and disadvantages, a cordless device (like the TRIA laser) is more convenient for treatment in any room with no cables and cords. On th other hand a cordless unit means it needs to be recharged frequently and the session might be interrupted by a ‘low battery’ signal.

Remington is a well reputed brand in Europe, US customers may have met Remington brand for small electric appliances such as electric shavers and trimmers.

Remington IPL Hair Removal I-Light Pro – Pros

The Remington IPL6000USA I-Light Pro definitely can remove hair just like any other IPL system using light to create heat at the hair stem below the skin layer, and disable the growth of the hair cells. Some of the pros for the Remington IPL hair removal system:

Comfortable Hand Device – The hand piece is simple to use, and comfortable to handle. The slim tip makes it very convenient when coming to treat small hair growth areas like the bikini line and under arms. The IPL lamp window is 2 by 3 centimeter (0.93 square inch).

Safety Sensors – There are 2 safety sensors. Skin tone sensor, which checks that the area needed to be treated is not too dark. Skin touch sensors which unless firmly pressed disable the lamp operation, so the IPL will not flash at the eyes.

Fast IPL Flashes – The system has a fast IPL lash repetition ability, of a flash each 2 seconds. This is the time needed for the touch sensors to unlock the lamp, and the IPL to recharge before each pulse. Faster repetition rate means a faster treatment session and saving you time and hassle.

The Remington IPL hair removal is slightly faster than the Tria Laser (1 flash per 2.2 seconds) and much faster than the Silk’n Sensepil (1 flash per 4 seconds!) and the Philips Satin Lux (6 seconds!). The only system faster than the Remington is the Me my Elos hair removal (0.5 seconds! 2 flashes per second, 4 times faster than the Remington! Me my Elos is the leader device of the IPL systems).

Remington IPL Hair Removal I-Light Pro – Cons

Elegant Curves For Remington IPL6000 USA I-Light Pro

The Remington IPL6000USA I-Light Pro though it has a fair price ($250 at Amazon.com) has some down falls compared to other systems. It is not that the system is not good, it is just that other systems are better, some of them are much better (and cost more).

Low IPL Cartridge Life – The Remington IPL6000 I-Light Pro IPL lamp is good for 1500 flashes only. This is a very small quantity of flashes. The system is delivered with 3 full cartridges, which makes 4500 flashes.. it might sound much, but a single Me my Elos IPL lamp has 5400 flashes capability!

Full Body..? – When the Remington instruction guide refers to a ‘full body’ treatment they mean lower legs, underarms and bikini line. In their eyes the 1500 flashes should be enough for 2-3 full-body treatments. But in order to see results more sessions are needed, and for those who wish a real full body, with upper legs, pubic and abdominal, arms and armpits.. it is far from being sufficient.

Skin Tone Sensor Not Near IPL Lamp – The Remington I-Light Pro has a safety skin tone sensor, but the sensor itself is located at the base unit and NOT at beside the IPL lamp window. The location on the base unit, makes the sensor close to.. useless. It will not protect the skin automatically during the treatment sessions over darker skin tones.

Facial Hair Removal – The Remington I-Light Pro just like any other IPL system does not recommend facial hair removal with the system. They intend it to treat body skin from the neck down. Other systems (which cost more) are allowing some facial treatments with their device (like the Silk’n SensEpil). The leader of the home IPL systems the Syneron Me my Elos permits facial hair removal and even has a facial hair removal kit for safer facial use. For those who wish a facial hair removal the Remington is not the answer.

Remington IPL Hair Remover Conclusion

The i-LIGHT Pro IPL system is s fine home use IPL system, which can be sufficient for those who need maintenance or small area hair removal solution. The system is nice and elegant looking, with a light power level like most other system. It is easy to use, and intuitive to operate. The price is fair, purchasing it for less than $300 it is a HIGH value for money offer!

Click Here To Buy Remington IPL6000USA I-Light Pro

For those who have tried other systems and failed, those who know they need solution for exsessive hair growth, those with darker skin tone color or those who need facial hair removal abilities ‘included’ it is better to invest in the leading devices such as the Me my Elos IPL + RF Hair Removal System or like the Silk’n SensEpil. Though they do cost more they may prevent the disappointment from the Remington in the situations mentioned above.

—————————————————————-

Removing Facial Hair With IPL Systems

When it comes to removing facial hair with IPL at home, it seems all the IPL companies have no real solution. While men can shave to remove unwanted facial hair at home, women have much trouble to eliminate facial hair in a clean permanent discreet way. The most common option for long term hair removal is to go to skin centers and pay high prices for body and hair removal sessions.

Women who wish to remove hair at home and save thousands of dollars, usually purchase a home IPL system and do all the treatments comfortably and privately at home. The only down of most of these home IPL hair removal systems, is that they are not meant for facial hair removal. Most IPL devices come with a warning “not for facial use”, which might make them somewhat irrelevant for the women buying them, as they can cover only part of the hair removal needs.

The only IPL system which not only permits facial hair removal, but also has a unique facial accessory, is the Syneron’s Me my Elos IPL hair removal (distributed in the UK under HoMedics). The new accessory is a Facial Hair Removal Kit for Me my Elos, which can be purchased at Amazon (.com & .co.uk) and guides users men and women through a successful facial session.

The Me my Elos IPL is a successful and safe facial hair removal system for women due to the fact that the Me my Elos is NOT a regular IPL device, it utilizes the advanced ELOS technology which combines IPL + RF (radio frequency). The RF completes the hair elimination with no light energy, so the Me my Elos doesn’t need powerful (but risky) light energy for efficient hair removal.

Facial IPL Hair Removal Risks & Side Effects

There are always risks and side effects to IPL hair removal. It can be said with confidence that compared to ‘Laser Hair Removal’, IPL side has less side effects and risks, but each women and skin type combination acts differently.

The reason for this is that laser hair removal has a powerful light energy beam (the DM7000 laser sends hundreds of joules per second) while the IPL emits a low power (up to 20 joules) flash at a wider spectrum.

But when facial hair removal is considered, the main risks stay the same:

IPL & Eye Injuries – When using IPL light on the face, the intense light is seen as a blinding flash, which should not be directed to the eyes. Though most advanced IPL systems have a touch sensor to avoid the pulse be released without full skin contact, the intense light flash is seen and can be felt. Unprotected facial hair removal endangers women who use the IPL system on cheekbones and sideburns, when the flash window is to close to the eyes.

IPL Over Dark Skin – Another problem IPL users are facing when they try to complete a facial hair removal session with IPL is damage to facial skin. When IPL flashes on darker parts of the face like lips, moles, beauty spots, tattoos or freckles – Side effects and pain could be expected. Because the light is absorbed by dark skin tones (higher melanin density) it causes excessive heat to skin tissue. This can cause side effects such as redness, burns and even scarring.

Excessive light can cause melanin cells to either get damaged (hypo-pigmentation) or to melanin over production (hyper-pigmentation). The result in both cases is white or dark patches on the skin. These could be quite unpleasant when appearing on the face.

Me my Elos NEW Facial Hair Removal Kit

The new facial hair removal kit by Syneron Me my Elos, is a small but effective value for money package. The Me my Elos IPL + RF system has two touch sensors at the sides of the IPL window which lock the system unless skin contact is felt. This protects the non-professional user from pulsing IPL flashes at the eyes.

The Me my Elos facial kit includes a pair of protection goggles (see picture of women). These should be used when ever treating facial hair. The goggles are special dark protection goggles that protect the sides of the eye from light, while allowing a clear front vision.

A white pencil for concealing dark skin spots is added also, this protects the dark skin from the IPL light flashes. Before the treatment draw over the lips, moles or tattoos with the white pencil. The white color absorbs less IPL light energy and will reduce the risk for skin burns and side effects.

Facial IPL hair Removal for Women

Using protection goggles and white pencil can protect women who wish to remove facial hair with IPL. This can be done with any IPL system though some of them have restrictions of the skin tone color to be treated. For fair skin tones (1-3) this method goggles + white pencil could be used with most IPL systems.

DM7000 Laser Removal System Safety

In this review of the DM7000 laser hair removal system, you can find out how safe is the systems for personal home hair removal treatments. The DM7000 laser hair removal system was launched late at 2011 by Biotechnique Avance. It is the latest laser system for home use, following the DM5000 laser hair removal and the DM6000 laser.

The DM7000 is now sold online for personal use through many online stores and retailers, and of course it can be found at Amazon.com (and Amazon.co.uk). At the end of this DM7000 safety review, if you choose to purchase a system, you will see two links one for each Amazon store (UK & US + Global).

There is also an advanced system called DM9000 laser system by Biotechnique Avance, but the DM9000 is a system which is meant for the professional segment of users, medical spas and home based skin clinics. The DM7000 is sold for personal home hair removal treatments.

DM7000 Laser Safety At Home

The DM7000 laser hair removal system can be wonderful and very effective for long lasting hair removal results under the hands of an aesthetic skin cosmetic personnel. But when we come to check whether the DM7000 is safe for home use we have in mind the average user, man or women, who is not a skilled, trained laser technician. The regular Joe or Jane, may be a hard working person, with a busy schedule, and no knowledge about laser hair removal chemistry & physics involved.

DM7000 Skin & Hair Types Candidates

The best candidates for the DM7000 laser hair removal system, are dark hair people, with light skin tone. If the hair is blond or gray the laser energy will be absorbed by the surrounding skin tissue, and may cause skin burns. Most at home laser and IPL systems have a skin color sensor, which locks the machine, if it is placed over dark skin color. The DM7000 has no skin sensor, so it will pulse a high energy 130 joules/cm2/sec even on a dark skin!

For blond people, and people with light hair color (even red or gray) a color pigment Carbon Dye can be added. The Carbon Dye will convert the laser light into heat better so the heat will reach all the way down the stem and promises a better hair removal process.

DM7000 Eye Protection Safety

The DM7000 laser hair removal device, is delivered with a pair of protective dark eye glasses. Those should be used when using the laser system, and they are supposed to protect the eyes from the bright laser flash light which is pulsed at the skin, but mirrors off the skin.

Most laser and IPL hair removal systems like the Tria Laser, Silk’n SensEpil, Me my Elos and some more have a skin contact sensor, which prevents the laser beam to be projected when the device is not firmly pressed at the skin. This is intended to protect the eyes of th user from an accidental projection of laser beam to the eyes! The DM7000 does not have such a safety lock, and is designed to be used 1 inch above the skin. While you can count on a professional partitioner to use the system carefully, we think people may accidentally beam laser right into their eyes!

The DM7000 laser is sold as a laser for facial use, but you should know that the competitor lasers which have FDA approval and clearance, do not allow facial hair removal that easily. The Tria laser totally forbids facial hair removal (though by the forum questions it is clear many users try it on the face too), the Silk’n Sensepil allows facial hair removal from the cheekbones down, and so does the Me my Elos system.

There is no chance a regular user can conduct a self laser treatment of facial hair SAFELY with the DM7000! The DM-7000 can be used on eyebrows only by someone else.

DM7000 Safety Conclusion

As far as we understand the DM7000 laser system, with all it’s pros and effective laser high power and advanced options, it is not intended for the non-trained user. When it comes to hair removal at areas such as underarms, the DM7000 efficiency and safety is questionable. It is less comfortable to treat the underarms with the system, compared to the Tria Laser, or the Silk’n SensEpil. The laser wand should be held an inch high and be stable for a few seconds, with the laser light pointing upward.

The DM7000 laser hair removal system can be used safely at home only for areas which can be easily accessed such as legs hair removal or arms and abdominal hair removal. The DM7000 laser has an advantage over other IPL systems for precise elimination of hairs, which can be used for pubic hair, or style a Brazilian kinky pubic design.

Now Is The Time For Laser Hair Removal In LA

It is now popular than ever, and it is the best time to begin laser hair removal sessions. The skin will not suffer UVB sun rays (summer rays) which can cause skin cancer and skin burns, winter time laser hair removal is much safer!

Men and women now have a lasting solution to unsightly body hair. The team of professionals at the Renaissance Laser and Vein Clinic has opened the door of its state-of-the-art facilities to droves of people eager to take advantage of the newest and safest laser hair removal techniques. No more shaving, plucking, and electrolysis. Renaissance Laser and Vein Clinic offers laser hair removal in Thousand Oaksand other locations in Los Angeles County. This is a breakthrough procedure that is changing lives forever, one laser treatment at a time.So how exactly does laser hair removal work? Essentially, the doctors at the Renaissance Laser and Vein Clinic pulse a finely calibrated laser onto the affected area. The dark pigment in a hair follicle absorbs the energy of the laser (people with dark hair tend to achieve better results), super-heating the root and stunting its growth. Multiple treatments are commonly needed, and the longevity of the results varies depending on the hair color. Some patients enjoy permanent hair removal.

Many people are hesitant about contacting these experts about laser hair removal in Encino and other areas in the larger Los Angeles County area, because of their concerns about paying exorbitant costs. In truth, however, the long-term cost of eschewing laser hair removal in Los Angeles for other methods (such as waxing) is actually much greater! People simply don’t register the greater cost because they pay it in smaller increments. Considering the effectiveness of the service being offered by the Renaissance Laser and Vein Clinic, though, laser hair removal is clearly an investment that keeps on giving. Read More

The home laser device cost less and give you more control of you time.

The Difference Between IPL and Laser Hair Removal

Most people actually do not know that IPL and laser hair removal are not the same thing. One of the most common questions asked by men and women a like is “What’s The Difference Between IPL and Laser Hair Removal?” Though the answer is quite simple – everything! People do want to understand why the systems are different and which technology is more suitable for their specific needs. The difference between IPL and laser hair removal, is not only a financial question, because they cost different, but it is also a matter of safety aspects worth understanding.

‘Laser hair removal’ is a general name for using Laser Beam light developed specifically for hair removal. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, this is a newer technology than laser, which was developed at the mid 90′s. Originally IPL was used to treat skin disease conditions, but when people who were treated saw patches of hair loss, over their skin, IPL hair removal was officially discovered.

There Is No Difference Between IPL And Laser Principles

Before we dive into technological differences between IPL and Laser (for dummies), it is important to understand that basically IPL and Laser do the use the SAME physic reactions to succeed the hair removal process.

Both of the technologies emit high energy light to the skin, when the light is absorbed by any dark matter it is turned into heat. When the light gets to a dark hair follicle, it turns into heat and destroys it. This is how both technology are designed to accomplish the elimination of the hair.

Both IPL and Laser are not permanent hair removal methods. There is a difference between ‘permanent hair removal’ to ‘permanent hair reduction’. Only electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method, because each hair root is destroyed by a thin needle emitting an electric current.

IPL and laser can achieve only permanent reduction. Some hair may grow again even after several treatments. This happens because a long lasting effect can occur only if the hair was attached to the root, (at the Anagen -hair growth stage) and the heat which destroys the hair, gets to the root too.

In any given moment only 15-20 percent of the hairs are at their growing stage (connected to the root) so the light treatments need to be done over and over again periodically to cover new hair growth cycles. In some cases the heat was not intense enough to destroy the root, so new hair can still grow again.

10 Differences Between IPL and Laser Technology

The main difference between Intense Pulsed Light and Laser, is the amount of light energy levels per square Centimeter and the spectrum of the wavelength. Here are some of the differences between IPL and Laser:

Laser uses a single light spectrum beam, while IPL uses xenon flash lamps, that spread light.

There are different lasers systems which use different wavelength (selective photothermolysis), while IPL uses the same wide spectrum of light.

Laser can penetrate deeper into the skin layers (epidermis) while IPL is more superficial.

IPL flash light has very fast repetition rate, while laser emit their beam with longer intervals.

IPL is usually precived as less painful, because the light energy is less intense than laser.

IPL has a wider lamp window (0.5 square inch) while laser has a pinpoint beam coverage. So laser can be more delicate when doing hair removal around tattoos.

IPL can be more dangerous for dark skin, because it is less precise and large skin surface absorb the light emitted.

nd:YAG laser can treat darker skin tones, which can not be treated safely by IPL.

IPL manages to ‘beat’ the hair thermal relaxation time (the fast flashes heat hair before it cools down), laser to slow to succeed this.

Lasers need epidermal cooling because they use higher energy Joule count, IPL does not require active skin cooling devices.

IPL and Laser Comparison

Each of the methods is effective for different people and skin types. For some the quick sessions is the most important parameter, since they do not have the time or the patience for never ending sessions, and IPL would be best for them. For those with darker skin, IPL would be too dangerous, and long wavelength nd:YAG laser might be the best solution.

The difference between IPL and laser should be the reason to pick one of them upon the other. Meet your local professional practitioner and get their opinion on which type f technology would be most suitable for your needs.

Difference Between IPL and Laser Home Systems

Today there are some very powerful and effective home systems to pick from. The same technology used at the professional clinics was compacted into small stylish devices, which can do more or less the same, at a fraction of the cost. Here are some of the leading devices you can choose from.

Tria Laser Hair Removal System – This is the first ever FDA approved laser system for home use. With 5 energy levels, a cordless device, and several safety functions, (like skin tone sensor) this is a very effective and safe hair removal laser for home use.

DM5000 Laser - This is a semi professional system, with high energy level powers, which is sold for small cosmetic centers and for home use too. It has better specs than the Tria, but with less safety sensors because it was designed for skin center usage by a trained practitioner.

Me my Elos – Currently the best IPL home system you can find. Me my Elos has a unique combination of IPL + RF hair removal technologies (see more about the Me my Elos). Me Elos users enjoy faster sessions than any another system, and it is less painful compared other IPL devices too.

The main difference between home IPL and laser systems, is the hassle before and during the session. Because laser has a pinpoint coverage spot of light, the sessions are very long and very tiring (1 leg = 1 hour). Some people who have natural high tempo, will not be able to repeat these sessions 6-8 times for each body area. IPL sessions are shorter than laser. Me my Elos users will do it even faster! (1 leg = 10 minutes).

————————————————
