DM7000 Laser Safety At Home

The DM7000 laser hair removal system can be wonderful and very effective for long lasting hair removal results under the hands of an aesthetic skin cosmetic personnel. But when we come to check whether the DM7000 is safe for home use we have in mind the average user, man or women, who is not a skilled, trained laser technician. The regular Joe or Jane, may be a hard working person, with a busy schedule, and no knowledge about laser hair removal chemistry & physics involved.

DM7000 Skin & Hair Types Candidates

The best candidates for the DM7000 laser hair removal system, are dark hair people, with light skin tone. If the hair is blond or gray the laser energy will be absorbed by the surrounding skin tissue, and may cause skin burns. Most at home laser and IPL systems have a skin color sensor, which locks the machine, if it is placed over dark skin color. The DM7000 has no skin sensor, so it will pulse a high energy 130 joules/cm2/sec even on a dark skin!

For blond people, and people with light hair color (even red or gray) a color pigment Carbon Dye can be added. The Carbon Dye will convert the laser light into heat better so the heat will reach all the way down the stem and promises a better hair removal process.

DM7000 Eye Protection Safety

The DM7000 laser hair removal device, is delivered with a pair of protective dark eye glasses. Those should be used when using the laser system, and they are supposed to protect the eyes from the bright laser flash light which is pulsed at the skin, but mirrors off the skin.

Most laser and IPL hair removal systems like the Tria Laser, Silk’n SensEpil, Me my Elos and some more have a skin contact sensor, which prevents the laser beam to be projected when the device is not firmly pressed at the skin. This is intended to protect the eyes of th user from an accidental projection of laser beam to the eyes! The DM7000 does not have such a safety lock, and is designed to be used 1 inch above the skin. While you can count on a professional partitioner to use the system carefully, we think people may accidentally beam laser right into their eyes!

The DM7000 laser is sold as a laser for facial use, but you should know that the competitor lasers which have FDA approval and clearance, do not allow facial hair removal that easily. The Tria laser totally forbids facial hair removal (though by the forum questions it is clear many users try it on the face too), the Silk’n Sensepil allows facial hair removal from the cheekbones down, and so does the Me my Elos system. 

There is no chance a regular user can conduct a self laser treatment of facial hair SAFELY with the DM7000! The DM-7000 can be used on eyebrows only by someone else.

DM7000 Safety Conclusion

As far as we understand the DM7000 laser system, with all it’s pros and effective laser high power and advanced options, it is not intended for the non-trained user. When it comes to hair removal at areas such as underarms, the DM7000 efficiency and safety is questionable. It is less comfortable to treat the underarms with the system, compared to the Tria Laser, or the Silk’n SensEpil. The laser wand should be held an inch high and be stable for a few seconds, with the laser light pointing upward.

The DM7000 laser hair removal system can be used safely at home only for areas which can be easily accessed such as legs hair removal or arms and abdominal hair removal. The DM7000 laser has an advantage over other IPL systems for precise elimination of hairs, which can be used for pubic hair, or style a Brazilian kinky pubic design.
